Track of The Week – 3rd Sep 2010

Trenton & Free Radical are a multi-cultural group of musicians, playing reggae and hip hop. Fronted by the South African Trenton, the band includes Zimbabwean Sam, Ugandan Kaz and German born, Ibiza-raised Marco. Trenton also runs the great little label Black Mango Music, releasing pioneering new sounds coming out of the African continent.

Their debut album has some quality names attached, being produced by Dean James (Nitin Sawhney, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly) and Craigie Dodds (Sugarbabes, Natty, One Eskimo) and mixed by Grippa (Faithless, Dido, Hempolics).

Most members of the band have firsthand experience of growing up surrounded by poverty and pretty extreme racial tensions, and that gives the lyrics here an air of authenticity. This moody, funky track also features some great production work, courtesy of those fine gents mentioned above.
